May. 23rd, 2009 07:14 pmCrawfish Bisque
Today I went to my folks house to help make Crawfish Bisque. It is quite the process. First you clean hundreds of crawfish heads buy removing everything that is not part of the shell and scrubbing with a toothbrush to get clean. This is done gradually and the heads frozen until they are to be stuffed. Then you make the stuffing (seasoning, crawfish meat, breadcrumbs) and actually stuff it into each head, then roll them in flour and fry them for a bit so the stuffing doesn't fall out in the stew. Then make a roux, add to seasoning, add liquid of some sort, more crawfish meat, then the stuffed heads. Cook for a long time, serve over rice. It is the most delicious thing you have EVER eaten. It is not something we have very often due to the crazy process but it is something we are always preparing in that when ever we have crawfish we peel what ever is left over and freeze to use when we make the bisque and we clean the heads a little at a time too. Today we stuffed over 400 little crawfish heads.
I am only the labor, not the cook and could never make this on my own.
the suffed heads are on the left about to go into the pot

The Tomato Vibrator
Apr. 29th, 2009 09:22 amFrom the Hollygrove Market & Farm Newsletter
The Tomato Vibrator - If you have a look at the LSU Ag Center website you will find the following: "In the absence of naturally occurring wind in the greenhouse, tomato flowers have to be vibrated by some mechanical means, such as electric vibrators, air blowers or bumblebees, to release the pollen." They actually conducted a study where tomato flower clusters were vigorously vibrated by touching the flower stalk for about two seconds with a Dutch-made electric vibrator and then compared pollination success to pollination by use of a blower. Lo and behold, they concluded that smaller greenhouse tomato growers should use hand-held vibrators to pollinate their crops for maximum yield and fruit size (i.e., a happy tomato plant). I understand the science and the need for best pollination practices in greenhouses - but a plant vibrator? Does anyone really use one without laughing?

Yesterday and some...
Feb. 8th, 2009 01:07 pmMA came over and helped put the new for x-mas grill together. Tomorrow I am going to get the tank filled and it's gonna be all about the grill over here.
The Prof. and I did some work outside around the house yesterday, it felt good to work outside and to work with her. I got to tell her about all the conflicting stuff I want to do in the yard and she could say "but that is not a native plant." I really like talking about this kind of stuff with her. I am dying to plant things but can't decide what to put in the ground. It's that fear of commitment stuff all over again. I have planted parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme in some ratty pots.
Ok, I JUST got that.
I want to start some basil soon and ONIONS! My father bought a bunch of onions and gave me some, I want to have green onions outside to cut whenever we need them. We can grill them too...cebollitas? I have to find out when to start tomatoes here, I want to plant some of those lemon boys that Paducah and Momma grow.
I am hoping to find out about getting back on IM for the second season in the next week or two. I had a little breakdown about my life a few days ago. If I get this job I won't be able to go to Michigan but it seems like an ok choice at the moment. In the past I kept a job I hated so I could have the ability to go to the woods so that I could stand to work at the stupid job for another year so I could go to the woods...but if I can get the job I love...
I will be heartbroken if I don't get this job.
I am very much in love with the cats lately.
My Aunt Joann will have open heart bypass surgery tomorrow. I should go visit her today.
An angel genius arranged for me to get my computer repaired and it should be returned to me tomorrow. THANKS! You have no idea what it is like to have to use a laptop almost closed while holding pressure on the screen so that it will light. I had all these different ways I would sit so that I could use both hands on the keyboard. It was crazy. I was even doing it to the Prof's computer then I realized that it wasn't necessary. nice.
Off to the hardware store with the Prof.
Have a nice Sunday!

Jan. 21st, 2009 11:03 amMy mac is injured and it no longer has insurance.
There is a bad wire or loose connection in the hinge. I can only look at the screen at less than 90 degrees and usually have to hold some pressure on it so that it will light up. Try to use your computer like this, not fun at all. The genius said I could have it fixed for $280. Not a bad deal, but the computer is 3 years old, the battery does not hold a charge and I would be pissed off if I spent the $ then something else went wrong. oh yeah and last night I put in a cd which broke and spit out sharp broken pieces which hit tripolorexpress. She now has schrapnel wounds. I have not tried another cd yet so I don't know if the cd thing still works. I feel like I want to wait to see if I get a J-O-B again on IM to make a decision. If I get a job that will last for 6 months that pays well then I will break down and buy a new bottom of the barrel macbook. Meanwhile using this computer sucks.
It feels wasteful to ditch a three year old computer. Why oh why don't they last longer?.
Get off facebook and post on LJ please

Carnival Time
Jan. 6th, 2009 10:49 amCarnival Time
Lyrics: Al Johnson
The Green Room is smoking, and the Plaza burning down
Throw my baby out the window, let the joint burn down
All because it's carnival time
Well, it's carnival time
Well it's carnival time
Everybody's having fun
The whole street is jumping from one side to the other
The joints are jamming packed, and I'm about to fall
All because it's carnival time
Well, it's carnival time
Well it's carnival time
Everybody's having fun
You bring a nickel, and I'll put a dime
Honk it together now and we can drink some wine
All because it's carnival time
Well, it's carnival time
Well it's carnival time
Everybody's drinking wine
The whole street is jumping from one side to the other
The joints are jamming packed, and I'm about to fall
All because it's carnival time
Well, it's carnival time
Well it's carnival time
Everybody's having fun

Dec. 20th, 2008 09:48 pmI love the snow but it betrayed me.
It covers everything and looks beautiful but it lies. I tried to walk down a rock wall at the beach and fell because it was covered by snow and I didn't realize that it was a rock wall at all until I was on my ass. It hurt my feelings.
I also scraped up my hands. I still love the snow but I will be less trusting.
